Summary

Formerly the 1964 Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) development called Coliseum Gardens, Lion Creek Crossings is a HOPE VI funded joint-venture between EBALDC, OHA and the Related Companies of California to redevelop a 22-acre site in East Oakland. When the multi-phase project is complete, Lion Creek Crossing will provide 440 new, high quality affordable 1 BR - 5 BR family units and 28 homeownership units. The recently completed phase one includes 115 apartments, 16 of which are designated disabled and disabled accessible, and 7,500 square feet of Head Start, YMCA and other community services. The project also includes the creation of a 5.7 acre park that includes an athletic field and restoration of a culverted creek.

Reflecting a fresh community spirit, neighborhood representatives and former residents of the demolished Coliseum Gardens selected a name for the new development, Lion Creek Crossings, highlighting the restoration of Lion Creek and two new bridges that will cross it. When completed, the development will have a hub of community uses at its core, including health care, computer training, recreation, and other services tailored to community needs.
