La Raza Uprising
New & Retro photography by Francisco Dominguez
The black & white photojournalism highlights the recent massive mobilizations of Latinos throughout the country in response to fervent anti-immigrant legislation. Dominguez’s profiles personalize the Mexican/ Latino families in California impacted by the discriminatory laws. Also included are a few screen printed posters which address the historic dynamic between persecuted Third World immigrants and a xenophobic society. Other parts of this retrospective focus on his travels to Guatemala with portraits of women and children, and a glimpse into his larger portfolio on jazz musicians and poets.
While Francisco J. Dominguez is often included in group exhibitions in the Bay Area, this is a rare opportunity to view a collection of works alone. There will be performances of music and poetry “from Oaxaca to the Mission” by Nancy Esteba and Elizabeth Esteba.
