AESTETIC ASCENSION

The Art of Malik Seneferu

Asian Resource Gallery presents dynamic paintings by the prolific African American artist Malik Seneferu from February thru March 2009. The self-taught artiist Malik Seneferu was living and working in San Francisco’s Hunters Point projects when ARG curator Greg Jung Morozumi met him fifteen years ago and invited him to participate in a group show called Rage & Beyond . Seneferu was painting in virtually every room in his family’s housing unit, doubling his modest home into an active art studio, so determined was he to become a painter. Since then he has traveled to parts of the African diaspora and now resides and works in the East Bay, while his folks still live in Hunters Point. Seneferu’s paintings reflect his personal transitions as well as the struggles and beauty of Black life in general.
